Becoming a Registered Training Organisation

by Johnny Stewart

Taipan

Hey Taipan Family,

It’s Johnny here, and I’m absolutely thrilled to write my first official blog!

About me, your trainer!

A little about me before we get into the good stuff. For over 22 years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of working in almost every role imaginable within the hydraulic hose and fittings world. My journey has taken me from warehouse duties to internal and external sales, working in the field, counter sales, and even stepping into management roles. Every single step has given me a deeper, hands-on understanding of what makes the entire hydraulic system tick, and more importantly, how we can all work together to ensure your safety and success.

Recently, I’ve been given the exciting opportunity to lead our newest division: Taipan Training Services. Let me tell you, it’s been a busy but incredibly rewarding time behind the scenes! I’ve been pouring everything into creating and delivering multiple training programs. My mission is simple: to empower both our valued customers and the dedicated team at Taipan with a deeper understanding of hose and fittings, alongside crucial safety practices and procedures.

So, what’s happening in the RTO space for Taipan?

There’s some truly exciting news on the horizon! Taipan is gearing up to submit our latest project to the Australian Government. We’re aiming for official recognition as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). What does that mean for you? It means we will soon be delivering nationally-recognised qualifications in hydraulic hose and fittings, covering everything from precise hose and thread identification to safe removal and assembly procedures. This has involved in-depth work behind the scenes, not just creating the program, but also designing and commissioning state-of- the-art student workstations for hands-on testing and practice. It’s taken longer than we first predicted, but we’re working hard to have the entire course signed off and ready to roll out by the end of 2025, which is very exciting!

To make sure we can deliver this top-tier training across the country, Malcolm, our fantastic West Coast-based Internal Trainer, has been hard at work gaining his TAE accreditation. This means he’ll be delivering the RTO course in Western Australia, while I’ll be leading the charge in the Eastern States. We’re a great team and are both very excited to start sharing our lessons with you all!

In the meantime, get ready for some fun and learning!

We are now delivering monthly training quizzes for all Taipan customers. YAY! They will cover everything from thread names and identification to hose and pressure ratings, just to name a few. They’ll start off easy, but trust me, they’ll get progressively harder as the months go on, challenging your knowledge and, more importantly, helping you grow your knowledge in a fun way. I truly encourage all of you to have a red-hot go at these quizzes – they’re a fantastic learning tool for all things Taipan and hydraulic hose and fittings, and who knows… You might just claim the lunchroom bragging rights at your workplace when you achieve 100% on the quiz. Scan the barcode below or follow the link to give it a go.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more updates in the coming months. Get ready to expand your hydraulic expertise with Taipan Training Services, we’ve got a lot planned!

Cheers,

Johnny Stewart

In case you haven’t met me, here’s a photo to give you a quick impression (I’m the tall, handsome one).

A sneaky preview into how our test rigs are going to look for our hand-on training exercises.
